How to Decorate a Wall Nook

A wall nook is a small recesses area that is architecturally attractive, but can pose a decorative challenge. These nooks, placed often at eye level, are usually either too small or too large for conventional decorating techniques. You must not be afraid to go bold when decorating wall nooks, as they are often the ideal location for displaying a beautiful showpiece in your home. Instead of trying to make the recess blend in with the rest of the décor, allow it to stand out.

Instructions

  Paint the nook with a color that blends with the current décor, but is a few shades darker than the wall. If you have a darker wall color, paint the nook a few shades lighter.

  Measure the width of the nook and have the hardware store cut a few 2-by-4 inch boards to fit inside the nook to provide shelving.

  Attach the shelving to the wall with wood screws screwed at an angle from the underside of the shelf into the wall every 2 inches.

  Paint the shelving to match the paint color of the nook.

  Decorate with knickknacks, photos or other mementos of your life.
