How to Hang a Long Curtain Panel

A room is instantly dressed up when long curtain panels are added to the windows. Panel curtains complete just about any décor style, from modern to traditional. After purchasing your chosen curtain panels, you may be at a quandary as to how to hang them properly. Use a metal measuring tape to get a proper measurement of the curtain panel and the placement of the curtain rod. A fabric tape measure is difficult to keep taught for such a long measurement.

Things You'll Need

  • Curtain panels
  • Curtain rod
  • Drill with screw driver attachment
  • Metal measuring tape
  • Curtain rod and brackets

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the curtain panel. The bottom of the long curtain panel should just touch the floor. Add an inch to the measurement, as when the curtain is on the rod it will reduce the fabric by that much. Lightly mark the wall above the window with the measurement, plus the 1 inch. This will be the height of the top of your curtain rod. This looks best if the rod is at least 2 to 3 inches above the top of the window. You can, however, place your curtain rod higher if you need to, according to the length of the curtain panel.

Attach the curtain brackets with your drill and the screws that came with it. Make sure the screws will go into a stud in the wall. Use a stud finder tool to locate them. This will be about 3 inches out from the side edge of the window. Place a bracket on the right side of the window and one on the left.

Place a panel onto the curtain rod though the fabric tube at the top of the curtain panel. Depending on the width of the window, you may need two or more panels. Place the curtain rod onto the brackets.
