How to Make Your Own Wall Monogram Stencil Templates

When you are decorating the walls in your home, you can make the walls look more elegant and classy by painting on a custom monogram stencil to symbolize your family's name. Although you can have a custom monogram stencil template designed by a graphic design company, custom templates can be costly. One alternative is to make your own monogram stencil template using inexpensive materials that can be found at any arts and crafts supply store.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a sheet of heavyweight vellum flat onto a table top, and trace out the first letter of your last name onto the surface of the vellum using a wax pencil. Make the drawing as large or as small as you want the stencil to be.

    • 2

Place the vellum sheet onto a mat cutting board. This will prevent your work surface from being damaged as you cut out the stencil.

    • 3

Cut out the letter using a pen knife. Cut slowly, taking extra care when cutting around corners or angles. Discard the cutout pieces of vellum.

    • 4

Sand the edges of the vellum where you cut out the letter using fine-grain sandpaper. This will remove any imperfections or shards of vellum that may effect the quality of the stencil. Use small, circular motions as you sand.

    • 5

Wipe off the stencil template with a washcloth to remove any dust caused by sanding before use.
