Alternatives to Wreaths on Doors

Your front door is the welcoming first impression your home makes on guests, just as your clothing is among the first impressions people have of you. When dressing up the front door, you have wreaths from many seasons to choose from, but wreaths are not your only option. Give your front door a welcoming look without relying on the most common of door decorations.
  1. Bows

    • Bows are common enough to look like a traditional door decoration, yet different enough to have a bit of style. Create large bows with wired ribbon in the summertime, and use vinyl or other weatherproof materials in the snowy or rainy seasons. Coordinate the colors to your door, or change them according to the coming holidays.

    Holiday Decor

    • Take a cue from the calendar, and change your door every month. Decorate the front of your door with holiday-themed pictures and objects. Wrap your door like a gift at Christmas. Hang an elaborate turkey plaque for Thanksgiving. Get spooky on Halloween and patriotic for the Fourth of July. You can find a new holiday-themed decor for every month of the year to keep your door decor fresh.

    Flags

    • Seasonal flags made of ripstop nylon are popular in many neighborhoods. Homes often sport Easter bunnies on the flagpole in the spring and reindeer in the snow. Attach a hook or two to your front door, and you can use these same flags as seasonal plaque decorations. Changing your door decor will be a matter of seconds. Just remove one flag and hang up the next one.

    Plaques

    • Find a homey plaque with a heartwarming saying, or have one custom-made for your family. Use this to decorate your front door instead of a wreath. A plaque welcoming guests to your home or celebrating the members of your family can be more inviting than an anonymous circle of greenery. Add personality to the plaque by hanging one with humor or incorporating family member's hobbies such as quilting or fishing.
