How to Hang Curtain Panels & Valances

Curtain panels with coordinating valances are popular window treatments in situations where you want sunlight to enter the space but don't want the inside of your home to be visible through the window. Two sets of curtain rods mounted to the window frame hold the valance on top and panels at the halfway point. The upper rod holds a short valance for decoration, and the bottom rod holds two curtain panels for privacy.

Instructions

    • 1

Mark two level points in the upper corners of the window molding or just outside and above the molding. Mark two level points on the edge or just outside the molding on either side of the upper edge of the bottom window frame.

    • 2

Fit an electric drill with a Philips bit and secure the rod brackets to each mark. If using standard metal rods, make sure the bracket tabs are pointing up.

    • 3

Thread one rod through the valance rod pocket. Place the rod in the upper brackets. If using standard metal rods, hook the top hook of the rod into the top bracket hook and press the bottom of the rod end into the bottom hook to secure the rod.

Thread the other rod through the curtain panel rod pockets and place the rod in the lower brackets. Adjust the panels and valance so the pleats are even across each section.
