How to Hang Silk Scarves on Windows

Silk scarves can be a less expensive yet elegant way to dress your windows. You can mix and match colors and lengths to accent your living or bedroom, and the shades can be changed regularly depending on your mood or time of year. Hanging your silk scarves on curtain rods is easy to do and it makes removing the scarves for cleaning, or changing colors, simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the length of the scarves to purchase by measuring the length and width of your window. You may want to purchase scarves that are longer than your window for a more dramatic look, or for a simple treatment, buy scarves that are in proportion to your window. Double the length for the actual scarf since you will be draping it over the rod.

    • 2

Measure the length of your curtain rod to determine where to attach the brackets that hold the rod on your walls. For example, if the curtain rod is 36 inches, then you may want to attach the brackets 32 inches apart, leaving a 2-inch slack for the end of the rod at each end.

    • 3

Calculate the position of the brackets so that they are even on the wall. Measure the placement of each bracket from the ceiling. For example, if you are attaching the right bracket 5 inches from the ceiling, then the left should also be 5 inches from the ceiling. In this example, the final position of the brackets will be 32 inches apart and 5 inches from the ceiling.

    • 4

Drill the screws into the brackets to secure them to the wall using an electric drill. Place the curtain rod in the bracket slots.

    • 5

Set your iron to the lowest temperature and carefully remove any wrinkles in the scarves. You may place a paper towel between the iron and the scarf if you are concerned about it burning.

    • 6

Drape the silk scarves over the rod once it is hung.
