How to Make Sheer Panels for a Bed Canopy Without Sewing

Sheer bed canopy panels provide privacy and block your view of the rest of the room to allow for a restful night's sleep. They can be mounted to a rod system attached to the bed frame or ceiling and gathered at each corner when not in use. Because dimensions for each bed and frame system are different it may be necessary to purchase fabric in bulk and create your own panels from scratch. Fabric bonding tape provides a no-sew option for individuals who don't know how or don't have access to a sewing machine.

Measure the distance from the floor to the canopy frame. Measure the length of the rods on the sides and the foot and head of the frame. Add 6 inches to the height measurement, 18 inches to the side measurements and 12 inches to the foot and head measurement.

Consult a fabric specialist at your local craft store for sheer fabric dimensions. Fabric comes in different widths. Choose fabric wide enough for the widest panel and long enough to cut all panels from one sheet. Purchase enough fabric to create two panels per side. The dimensions for each panel should equal the height measurement by one half of the width measurement for the corresponding side.

Cut the sheer fabric into panels based on your measurements. Lay each panel over an ironing board and apply fabric bonding tape to the bottom and side edges. Fold the edges over the bonding tape to create a hem, and iron according to package directions. Fold the top edge over 3 inches, apply bonding tape to the inside edge, and iron. Leave the ends open to allow room for the canopy frame rods.
