Instructions

    • 1

Measure, mark and trim the wooden plank to the desired length of your Shaker peg rack. Measure and mark a faint pencil line down the center of the board, from end to end. Decide how far apart you will install the shaker pegs; 4 inches to 6 inches apart is common.

    • 2

Measure the length of the board. Draw faint lines across the board 2 inches from each end. Measure and mark the center of the line between the end marks on the board. Divide that length (in inches) by the distance between the pegs. If the number is odd, one peg will be positioned in the center of the rack. If the number is even, the two center pegs will be positioned on either side of the center line, each one-half the width of the peg spaces from the center line.

    • 3

Measure and mark the positions of the pegs on the center line on the board, working from the center toward the ends. Use an awl and mallet to make indentations in the board at each mark. The indentations will serve as pilot holes for the screw-in Shaker pegs.

    • 4

Rout the edge of the board, if desired. Sand the board smooth using medium, then fine-grit sandpaper. If you intend to stain or paint the board, do so before installing the pegs.

    • 5

Screw one Shaker peg into each pilot hole. Turn the peg clockwise until it is firmly seated against the plank.
