How to Remove Bay Window Drapes to Make Room Appear Larger

Bay windows are considered a high selling point in a home. They allow in a great deal of light, let those inside enjoy the view of the outside and are low maintenance. When left unadorned, they can increase the illusion that the room is larger. Minimal drapery solutions are best so as not to detract from the beauty of the window itself.

      Remove the drapes from their rod. If using a transverse rod, unhook the drapes from the rod then remove the hooks from the drapes. When using a standard rod, remove the rod and slide the drapes from it.

      Store the drapes. Launder the drapes or have them dry cleaned before storage. Fold the drapes and store them in a durable storage container. Drapery hooks should be stored with the drapes in a plastic sealed bag.

      Remove the rods and fittings from the windows. Place in a secure storage location.

      Patch the screw holes, sand and repaint the wall around the bay window.
