DIY Nursery Wall Decoration Ideas

Decorating a baby’s nursery doesn’t need to be expensive or exhausting. You can create your own attractive nursery items, especially wall art. DIY wall decor helps to slash your nursery-decorating costs and adds a personal touch to your little person’s room. Check thrift stores for basic materials, such as picture frames, to cut costs even more.
  1. Vintage Prints

    • Match plain frames with vintage prints to create classic wall decor for your nursery. Look for old magazines, books, prints, photographs, record cases, calendar pictures and greeting cards you can frame. Place the items in simple black, white or wooden frames to keep the visual emphasis on the vintage items. For example, clip illustrations from old children's books, frame them and hang them over your baby's changing area.

    Hanging Blankets

    • Turn a blanket that you love into wall art. If you've been fortunate enough to receive a handmade quilt as a shower gift, by all means, hang it on the wall. You can also find delightful baby quilts at big-box stores. Alternatively, make your own quilt for the wall, using old blankets that belonged to your baby's siblings, as well as those donated by friends and family members. Cut the blankets into squares, strips or other shapes, and arrange them in a unique wall hanging. Make it smaller than a typical baby blanket, if you wish, and frame it.

    Fabric Dots

    • Break out the cardboard, scissors, glue and scrap fabric to create polka-dot wall decorations for a colorful nursery theme. Cut the cardboard into several circles in varying sizes. Cover each cardboard circle with fabric, pulling the material taunt and gluing it to the back of circle. Use poster putty to arrange the dots in a random pattern across a wall. Use one fabric to cover all the circles for a simple decoration, or use a different fabric to cover each circle for an eclectic decoration. To give the polka-dots added dimension, consider gluing batting cut to measure to each cardboard circle before you cover it with the fabric.

    Dough Letters

    • Make your own salt dough letters to create cheerful decorations you can hang on a wall or door. Mold each letter yourself, or use alphabet cookie cutters. Paint the baked dough, and cover with spray varnish to keep the letters from crumbling.
