Door Decorating Ideas for College Apartments

College often combines a variety of people in one apartment. Decorating the door of your apartment does the dual job of welcoming friends while showcasing the unique or collective personalities within. The style in which you choose to decorate your door can range from silly to classy to crafty. All you need to complete the project is a few supplies and group input. Decorating your door is a fun activity that lets you show your style to the world.
  1. Personal

    • Print out a picture of each roommate and make a paper frame for each. Have each roommate decorate their frame with stickers, doodles, designs or words. After decorating the frames, sign them and tape them securely to the front door. Place a welcome sign over the pictures.

    Practical

    • Open the door and tie a wide, decorative, cloth ribbon around the door approximately 3/4 of the way up. Tie the ends on the inside of the door near the door jamb and snip off any excess ribbon. Secure with tape underneath where necessary to keep it straight. On the outside of the door (over the ribbon) secure a large white board. Attach a white board pen to the board so that you can indicate when you will be back, draw a fun design, or allow visitors to leave you messages.

    Silly

    • Draw or find a picture that best describes you. This can be a cartoon of yourself or a picture of your favorite hobby. Trace your hand on a piece of heavy cardstock and cut it out. Sign the cut-out hand and secure it next to your picture.

    Crafty

    • Select a wreath that you all agree on. Purchase small wooden cut-out shapes from a local craft store and paint them a color that matches the wreath. Write the names of each roommate on a wooden shape and glue them to the wreath. Hang the wreath on the door to welcome guests.

    Classy

    • Decide on some text or a design with your roommates and get it printed in vinyl letters. The text can be names, a welcome sign or a favorite quote. Apply the vinyl to the door according to the manufacturer's instructions. When it is time to move out, the vinyl can be peeled from the door with no effect on the paint or wood.
