How to Hang a Banner on a Cinder Block Wall

Decorating a cinder block wall presents special challenges. The texture won't hold masking tape, and drilling holes in the wall is not practical for a temporary decoration. Whether you're hanging a birthday banner on a dorm wall or a welcome home banner in the garage, museum putty from your local home improvement or art supply store will allow you to hang your banner effectively. Museum putty is a pliable substance that softens in your fingers and can form a strong bond between the wall and your banner; when you're ready to take your banner down, it won't leave a gooey, sticky mess on the wall or tear your banner.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the banner face down on the floor.

    • 2

Wipe the back of the banner to remove dust and dirt and provide a clean surface.

    • 3

Pinch a small amount of museum putty between your index finger and thumb, and roll it into a ball.

    • 4

Press the ball of adhesive in one corner of the banner.

    • 5

Repeat the process of pinching and rolling the adhesive and sticking it to the back of the banner for each corner and every 6 to 8 inches between the endpoints on the top and bottom of the banner.

    • 6

Grasp the two top corners of the banner, and lift so that the front of the banner is facing you.

    • 7

Press the top two corners onto the cinder block wall. Run your hands firmly over the rest of the banner so each ball of adhesive on the back of the banner makes firm contact with the wall.
