How to Install a Curtain Rod Over Sliding Doors

Sliding doors can offer an abundance of natural light, but give away privacy. Hanging curtains over the sliding doors will keep privacy in. Curtains can also add to the overall decor and feel in the room. The higher the curtain rod is positioned above the sliding doors, the higher the ceiling will appear and the room will also look more spacious. To make the sliding glass doors look wider, you can extend the rod several inches to the sides of the doors.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a position for each curtain rod bracket above the sliding doors and mark it with a pencil. Measure the mark for the position of each bracket to make sure each is the same distance away from the sliding doors.

    • 2

Place a level under or above the mark created for each bracket. Use the straight edge of the level to create a straight, horizontal line a few inches long where each mark is.

    • 3

Hold one bracket to the wall on the straight line created with the level. With a pencil, mark the screw holes in the bracket on the wall.

    • 4

Drill the wall anchors into the screw hole marks using a Phillips screwdriver or an electric drill.

    • 5

Place the bracket back in position so each wall anchor is visible through its screw hole. Position each screw into the bracket's screw holes, and screw it into the predrilled wall anchors.

    • 6

Repeat the process to install the additional one or two brackets. Then erase all pencil marks from the wall.

    • 7

Hang the curtain on the rod. Then place the rod into the brackets above the sliding doors.
