How to Hang Layered Window Panels & Sheers

Layering curtain panels over sheer panels creates depth and offers additional lighting options in a room. Sheer curtains filter light and can contrast with heavier panels, creating interplay of texture and color. Hang sheer panels beneath heavier curtains. Use appropriate designs and sizes of curtain rods to show off your curtains and for ease of accessibility as you play with different ways to showcase your windows and your room.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a narrower curtain rod for the sheer panels than for the outer rod for the heavier curtains. Select a rod to blend or contrast with the outer rod.

    • 2

Install the brackets for the inner curtain rod, which will hold the sheer panels. Attach the curtain rod brackets to the wall flush with the upper and side edges of the window.

    • 3

Install the outer curtain rod brackets. Place the brackets so the outer rod hangs above and past the outer sides of the rod for the sheers.

    • 4

Slide the sheer panels on the slimmer curtain rod. Attach the curtain rod to the inner brackets. Adjust the sheer panels so they hang evenly distributed across the curtain rod.

    • 5

Place the outer curtains on the outer curtain rod. Mount the rod on the outer brackets. Attach the finials to the ends of the outer curtain rod.
