White goes beautifully with gold walls. It softens the look of deep gold walls, while it heightens the ethereal look of light gold shades. Paint molding and any wall trim white to break up the blocks of gold color. Consider painting windows and doors white as well. White lacy curtains are a good choice for window treatments.
Dark wood provides a striking contrast when used with gold walls, especially if they are a deep shade. Hang pictures and mirrors framed in dark wood. Place a large dark-wood piece, such as a credenza, against a gold wall. Green plants will accent both the dark wood and the gold paint, so set large-leaved plants on dark-wood shelves or on top of wood tables or desks that are set next to the wall.
Hang framed decorative tiles painted in pewter blue or brick red on the wall to provide an interesting contrast to the gold. Or hang curtains with a pewter-blue or brick-red design on a white background. Black wrought-iron accessories also provide a pleasing accent for gold walls, especially those painted with white trim. Look for wrought-iron curtain rods and shelf brackets. Metallic gold picture frames can work well, as long as the color of the frame is a lighter or darker shade to contrast with the walls.
Deep gold walls evoke the feeling of traditional Mediterranean rooms. Enhance this effect by hanging copies of classical oil paintings, framed and matted in a traditional style. Still lifes and landscapes are excellent choices. Use Mediterranean accents, such as tapestry wall hangings that show lush Italian gardens or candle sconces decorated with images of grapes and leaves. Hang large mirrors with ornate wrought-iron or gilt wooden frames.
