How to Install a Chalkboard

Chalkboards are commonly used in school classrooms; however, they can also be used in homes as a way for families to communicate with each other. In the home, chalkboards are hung in kitchens, playrooms and home offices and are used to write upcoming events, activities, grocery lists and work schedules. Manufacturers make chalkboards in different sizes, shapes and colors, and some are magnetic.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a place in the room where the chalkboard can easily be seen and accessible for the family to write on. For larger and heavier chalkboards, try to find a stud to screw the board into, which will reduce the chance of it falling off the wall.

    • 2

Paint the wall before installing the chalkboard. Let completely dry.

    • 3

Attach picture hangers on each side of the back of the chalkboard near the top of it. For larger boards, attach a third hanger in the center.

    • 4

Hold the board up against the wall in the desired location. Use a level at the top of the board to ensure it is even and then mark places on the wall for the screws.

    • 5

Secure screws into the wall using a screwdriver or drill. Hang the chalkboard in place and step back to ensure it is even and level.
