Hanging a Sheer Drape on a Bay Window

Sheer curtains softly draped over a bay window create a subtle translucent effect and add to the mystique of the window. A sheer drape is the curtain of choice for a bay window if you only want to filter, not block, light. You may prefer to use sheer curtains to frame your bay window rather than filter light. Bay windows vary in construction and dimension, which can affect how you choose to hang your sheer curtain.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distance across the front of the bay window, just inside the well. Attach curtain rod brackets 1 inch inside the well and 1 inch down from the top of the bay area.

    • 2

Use a straight curtain rod that will coordinate with your home style. Alternatively, select a decorative rod to match a chandelier or other room hardware.

    • 3

Slide the sheer drape panels onto the curtain rod. Pull one sheer to one side of the rod and the second sheer to the opposite side.

    • 4

Place the curtain rod into the rod brackets. Attach the finials to each end of the curtain rod.

    • 5

Adjust the curtain panels to hang, evenly spaced, straight down. Use hold backs to add a billowing sense when the panels are pulled back at mid-length.
