How to Make a Leather Suede Wall Hanging

Recycle scraps of leather suede to transform a boring wall in your home or business with a piece of art. Decorating with leather suede is a contemporary and fashionable choice that creates a classic look. Suede is a type of leather made from the underside of the skin from lambs, goats, pigs, calves and deer. The material has a nap finish that makes it soft and pliable, according to the American Leather Chemists Association.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the wall area that you would like to cover with the wall hanging.

    • 2

Add 2 inches to each side of the measurement. Mark this new measurement on the leather suede material with a fabric pen.

    • 3

Label the top of the wall hanging with a fabric pen.

    • 4

Cut out the leather suede material with scissors.

    • 5

Sew a 1-inch hem on the two sides and bottom of the material using a sewing machine or a heavy-duty needle and thread.

    • 6

Sew a 1-inch hem on the top border, leaving the two corners open.

    • 7

Screw off the decorative knob, or finial, on one end of a hanging rod that is no more than 1/2 inch thick.

    • 8

Insert the rod into the pocket you made at the top of the leather suede material. Screw on the decorative knob tightly.
