Measure the width of the windows with a measuring tape to determine the length of drapery rod to purchase. Add 2 to 6 inches to this width so the drapes don't block the windows while opened. One set of drapes will cover all the windows to create a seamless look.
Determine the level at which you want to hang the drapes. You can hang the drapes at the top of the side windows and leave the top of the larger center window uncovered. This provides privacy while letting light in through the center window. It also draws attention to the unusual shape of the windows. Alternatively, you can hang the drapes above the center window to create the illusion of a higher ceiling.
Hold the mounting bracket for the rod against the wall at the level where you want to hang the drapes. Mark the screw holes with a pencil. Remove the mounting bracket, then drill pilot holes at the marked spots. Place the bracket back in position, aligning the screw holes with the pilot holes, then drive screws through these holes to keep the mounting bracket in place. Do the same with the other mounting brackets.
Hang the drapery rings on the rod. If your drapes hang by tabs or grommets instead of rings, thread the drapery rod through these tabs or grommets.
Place the drapery rod on the mounting bracket. If you hang the drapes by rings, then attach the drapes to the drapery rings.
