Assess the overall shape and use of your room in order to decide what type of camouflage will work the best. For example, ugly curtains can easily be hidden by tall plants. However, this type of camo may look odd in a formal dining room.
Choose specific camouflage items. These will help to hide your curtains or distract the eye from looking at them. Select items that are large enough to cover at least half of your curtain material. Using tall potted plants in decorative holders, stylish end tables with accent lamps, oversized vases or even furniture are all simple ways to hide your offensive window treatments.
Place the camouflage items in front of your curtain area. If possible, push a larger piece of furniture such as a sofa or loveseat in front of the curtains as a shield. Add the potted plants or accent tables for a designer look.
Weave a long scarf or sheer piece of fabric through the curtain rod and pull the ends down to hide the ugly drapery. If you are using a pocketed curtain rod, and cannot weave the fabric through, simply hang the fabric or scarf over the top of the drapes. Allow the fabric to billow downward, camouflaging as much of the curtain as possible.
