How to Make Blinds for a Camper Shell

Whether you are refurbishing an old camper shell or simply want to add more privacy to a new one, it can be difficult to buy blinds that will fit. By using roller shade blinds, you can cut them to size to fit your camper shell windows. These also have the advantage of being secure when raised, without any cords hanging down. Since roller shades are normally available in just a couple of sizes, you can create your custom size by cutting them down. These shades are available at many home improvement and hardware stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the windows in the camper shell. Purchase roller blinds that are wider than the window.

    • 2

Unroll the binds completely and lay on a flat work surface. Pop one of the end caps off the blinds with a screwdriver. Set the cap to the side.

    • 3

Mark the new width of the blind. Do this at both the top and bottom of the blind, as well as several points in between. Use the yardstick and pencil to make a line connecting all the marks.

    • 4

Cut along the line with a utility knife, using the yardstick as a guide. Remove the excess blind material. Use the hacksaw to cut the barrel the blind attaches to.

    • 5

Replace the end cap that you removed earlier. Roll up the shade for installation in the windows of the camper shell.
