How to Make a DIY Wooden Wall Spice Rack

A wooden wall spice rack is a great way to get all of your spices out of your cabinets and off your counters, saving prime storage space for more important items and making the quick use and return of spice containers more convenient and time-saving time. Building a DIY wooden wall spice rack with unique and customized features, such as a fancier wood or bright paint color, can help prevent the rack from looking like the dark and cheap spice racks of the 1970s. Re-size the shelf widths and depths to perfectly store whatever brand of spices your family uses.

Instructions

    • 1

Set one of the shelf boards on its long thin edge and position the two side boards on either side of it so that the three boards make a "U" shape. Press the boards together tightly and pre-drill two evenly spaced holes through each side board and into the shelf board; this will serve as the bottom shelf of the spice rack. Attach the three boards together with wood screws.

    • 2

Slide the other shelf board into position about 6 inches above the first shelf board and parallel to it. Hold it in place and pre-drill two evenly spaced holes on each side of the board, through the side boards and into the ends of the second shelf board. Attach the second shelf board with wood screws.

    • 3

Drill a 1/4-inch diameter hole into each side board, about 3 inches above each shelf and 1/2-inch from the front of the spice rack. Pass two dowel rods through the holes and secure them in place on each end with a light coat of wood glue. Allow an hour for the wood glue to dry.

    • 4

Flip the spice rack face-down and position the rear board on top of it. Pre-drill holes in the four corners and evenly along the side edges of the rear board and into the side boards. Attach the rear board to the spice rack with wood screws.

    • 5

Hang the spice rack on the wall by screwing it directly through the rear board and into the desired section of the wall.
