Decide how low you want the sheers to hang. For a dramatic look, let the sheers drape to the floor. For a standard look, have the sheers hang 5 to 8 inches below the windowsill. If you will have drapes over the sheers, keep the length of the sheers shorter than the length of the curtains.
Measure for the placement of the rod's brackets. Generally, the rod will extend 3 to 4 inches beyond each side of the window frame and hang 3 to 4 inches above the window frame. Use a pencil to mark where the bottom of the brackets should be placed.
Place a bracket so the bottom edge rests along your mark. Tape the bracket to secure it into place. Repeat with the bracket that goes on the other side of the window.
Place the rod on your brackets, providing some support along the rods with your fingers without changing the height of the rod. The tape is not strong enough to support much weight, so do this gently. Have a friend lay the level horizontally on the rod to see if the rod is level. If not, adjust your brackets accordingly until the rod is level.
Mark a dot with the pencil where the screws go that hold the bracket onto the wall. Remove the brackets. Drill a small guide hole into the wall and screw a wall anchor into the hole. Place the bracket back against the wall in its original position. Use the screwdriver to screw the screws into the wall anchors. Repeat on the other bracket.
Lay your sheers flat on a clean surface. Because sheers are translucent, it can be difficult to tell which side the pattern is on. However, one side will have a darker pattern once you look closely. This side is also the side facing out from the seams at the bottom and top of the curtains.
Slide the sheers onto the rod with the pattern side facing out. Have a friend help you lift the rod into position and fit it into the brackets. Adjust the sheers so they hang evenly across the window.
