How to Decorate Large Walls and Tall Ceilings

Large walls with tall ceilings can make any room look bland if not decorated properly. A large blank wall is a perfectly blank canvass for creativity and a decorator's dream come true. However, without the proper paint or hanging decor, it can make a room look boring and unfinished.

Instructions

    • 1

Tape off the ceiling edges and any outlets or moldings before painting. Use a ladder to reach the tall ceilings. You can either paint the entire room or just paint the large wall to make it the accent of the room. Choose a color that complements your furniture and any pictures you plan to hang on the wall.

    • 2

Mark where you want to hang the paintings or photos. For walls with tall ceilings, keep the pictures at eye level, rather than in the center of the space.

    • 3

Place the picture mounts on the wall and secure with a hammer and nail. Hang the pictures to test the look. Make sure the pictures are level. Use a level if your eyes aren't enough.

    • 4

Add shelves to a wall if you do not want to put up pictures or need extra storage space. Paint the shelves the same color as the wall or an accent color. Mount the shelving brackets with the screwdriver. Use the level to ensure the mounts are straight before attaching to the wall.

Place shelves in a line on the wall from floor to ceiling or strategically scattered over the space. Place pictures, books, candles and vases on the shelves for added storage and decoration.
