Hiding Sliding Doors

Sliding doors aren’t always a welcome sight in a home, especially if they don’t open to a pleasing view. If you’re not fond of your house's sliding doors, you don’t have to replace them. Hide them with curtains instead. Not only are curtains inexpensive and easy to install, they also allow you to add a touch of color to an otherwise bland wall. If you don’t want the wall to stand out, choose a neutral color instead.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of your door. Purchase curtains that are twice as wide as the door and two to three inches longer. The curtains will hang just above the door so they needed some added height.

    • 2

Divide the width of your sliding door by three and measure each length above the door by one to three inches. Mark each measurement with a pencil. Use the measuring tape to measure from one mark to the other so they are even with each other.

    • 3

Place the brackets onto the pencil marks and put the screws into the holes in the brackets. Use the drill to screw the brackets into the wall.

    • 4

Insert the curtain onto the curtain rod. Place the outside of the fabric so it is facing the interior of the house.

    • 5

Set the curtain rod on the brackets. Tighten the screws in the brackets with the screwdriver to hold the curtain rod in place.
