Mounting Curtain Rods Inside a Window Frame

Inside-mounting sockets hold curtains inside the window frame and are nearly invisible after the curtains are installed. The rod holds pocket curtains that slip onto the rod or curtain rings and is sturdy enough to hold heavy fabrics. The procedure is fairly quick from start to finish, and even a novice should have good results. Cafe and sill-length curtains are two styles that fit attractively inside a window frame.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase one package of inside-mount sockets to install inside the window frame. Inside-mount sockets are circular and designed to hold wood or metal rods. The socket will have an opening at the top half, which allows the rod to be dropped into the socket.

    • 2

Measure the width of the window frame 2 inches below the top of the frame. Use the measurement to determine the length of the curtain rod. The diameter of the rod must fit into the socket.

    • 3

Place the top of the socket 1 inch below the top of the window frame along the side of the frame. Make a pencil mark through the screw hole onto the frame. Repeat this procedure with the second socket.

    • 4

Pound a starter hole 1/4 inch deep into the wall using a hammer and nail. Remove the nail from the hole.

    • 5

Use a cordless screwdriver to attach the socket to the wall. Use the screws provided in the package containing the inside-mount sockets. Make certain to mount the socket so the rod will drop into the socket.

    • 6

Insert the curtain onto the rod and place the rod into the socket.
