How to Make Cathedral Ceiling Curtains

Cathedral ceilings, also known as vaulted ceilings, can be up to two-stories high in some homes. If you have windows that run the height of your cathedral ceilings, they can let in a lot of unwanted light and heat. Putting curtains over the cathedral windows helps block out extra heat and light to keep your home more comfortable. You can make your own curtains for the cathedral windows using home décor fabric you can purchase by the roll.

Measure the length of the cathedral window, from the top of the window to the floor, for full curtains, or from the window underneath the arch window for partial curtains, and take width of your cathedral window at its widest point. Measure out two panels of fabric that are twice the width as your window at its widest and 10 inches longer. Cut out the fabric.

Fold over the side hems 1/2-inch on the underside of the fabric. Iron the hem flat. Fold the hem over again by 1/2 and iron it flat again. Pin the hem in place. Sew the side hems with a 1/8-inch seam using straight stitch on normal tension.

Fold the bottom hem by 1 inch and iron it flat toward the underside of the fabric. Fold the hem up another 4 to 5 inches and iron it flat. Pin in place and sew using straight stitch on normal tension and a 1/8-inch seam.
