How to Paint a Bedroom to Match Blue & Brown Bedding

A brown and blue color palette is a sophisticated combination that balances warm and cool hues. This color combination is available on a variety of different bedspreads and comforters. Several painting options are available that will help you highlight your elegant bedding, while providing a complementary background for it to shine.
  1. Solid Color

    • Painting your walls a solid color will help provide a concrete background against the multiple colors of your bedding. Paint all of the walls brown or blue. Use the same shade as your bedding to coordinate, or introduce a wall color that is a hue lighter: For example, use a tan wall color if your bedding is a mid-brown color. You can also paint a different color on the walls. Solid white walls will help give the bedding prominence in the room. Yellow walls will provide an eye-pleasing contrast, as blue and yellow are both primary colors and the brown will balance the color scheme. These colors together create a triadic color scheme.

    Accent Wall

    • Creating an accent wall can help you achieve a harmonious look. Paint the wall that is behind the bed a different color than the other walls to make this wall and the bed the focal point in the room. For example, paint three walls brown and one wall blue. Another option is to paint three walls in a neutral color, such as white or beige, and the focal wall in a darker color, such as chocolate brown or navy blue.

    Stripes

    • Stripes can help elongate a space while providing an instant decorative element to the room. Use thick brown and blue stripes to anchor your bed in the room. Paint thick stripes in the same hue as the bedding, beside thinner stripes in a neutral color to highlight the bedding color. Tan and cream stripes will create an eye-pleasing color palette, as they are analogous to brown.

    Mural

    • Adding a mural that picks up the tones in your bedding can provide a complementary backdrop for your room. Paint a mural that has brown and blue shades, such as a beach or forest theme.

    Pattern

    • Paint a pattern on your walls to add dimension to the room, while reflecting the style in the bedding. If your bedding has a geometrical pattern, simulate this pattern on your walls. Use a swirl pattern if the bedding is solid-colored to add movement to the space. Stamping your bedroom walls can add a feminine touch to complement feminine bedding.
