How to Hang a Swag Valance & a Curtain on a Single Rod

A swag and panel curtain combination creates a stunning window treatment. By adding two window treatments on one curtain rod, you can create a custom window treatment that looks luxurious. And because the valence and panels are readily available at many retailers, this option can be a cost-conscious approach to your home decor. Instructions

Measure the width of your window to determine the location and size of curtain rod you will need. Subtract 2 inches from the window width and use this number as the distance between your curtain brackets. Hang the curtain rod so that the bottom of the curtain will touch the floor. If your panels are not long enough, hang your brackets 1 inch above the top of the window.

Affix one finial to the end of your curtain rod. Run the rod though the top of one panel. Install the swag next by feeding the rod through each rod pocket, taking care not to twist the swag. Apply the second panel next and install the second finial. Hang the rod onto the brackets allowing the brackets to sit in between the inside edge of each panel and the outside of the swag. Adjust the swag to make the fabric lay evenly and smoothly.

Create a luxurious and dramatic window treatment by using an alternative method. Add the measurement of the width of the window with the width of one panel. Use this measurement to determine how far apart to place your brackets. Measure the distance between the floor and the top of the window. Place the brackets 83 inches from the floor if your window is less than 83 inches from the floor to allow the panels to pool on the floor. Use longer curtain panels if your top window height is more than 83 inches.

Apply the panel onto the rod with one finial in place. Place one end of one swag on the rod and the end of another swag on the rod. Apply the second end of the first swag and then install the last end of the second swag. Apply the final panel and hang the rod so that the brackets sit just outside the outer edge of the panels.
