Remove the doorknob if the door is never used. Keep in mind that homes are safest when they have at least two exits, in case of an emergency. Don’t make one door unusable if there’s only one other door in the home.
Measure the door to find out how much product is needed to cover it entirely.
Paint the door in a bright, bold color that complements the room. If the paint will be exposed to the elements, use one that can withstand different types of weather. For a boost of creativity, use stencils on the door and fill in the outline with paint.
Gather newspapers, magazine clippings or photos, and tape them to the door. Butcher paper can also be used to cover the door; kids can color on it whenever they want to. Another option is to gift-wrap the door with wrapping paper.
Hang a decorative mirror on the door. The reflection also creates the illusion of space, making the room appear larger.
Drape Christmas lights around the door frame during the holidays. Also, some string lights come in different shapes and sizes that can stay up year-round. For example, small Chinese lanterns can be found as string lights.
Hang wreaths on the door and change them with the seasons. Wreaths aren’t only for Christmas time; wreaths for the summer, spring and autumn months also exist. Purchase wreaths or make them yourself at home.
Use the same style of hardware for the details on an exterior door. Match the doorknob, knocker, door number, peep hole and hinges in color and material. This creates a pulled-together, uniformed look.
