What Garage Door Color Pairs With a Red Brick Exterior?

A red brick exterior is a valuable characteristic to your home and the color you choose for your garage door can either complement the brick exterior or clash with it. Certain colors will highlight the garage doors and other architectural features of your home without detracting from your red brick exterior.
  1. Undertones

    • Look at your brick closely. You should notice several different colors that are undertones of the primary color on the brick. For example, you may see yellow, orange or brown flecks. Use one of the colors of the flecks to paint your garage doors. This will provide a contrast to the brick, but it will also blend in since this color is also present in each brick.

    Close Shade

    • Paint the garage door a shade that is near the brick color on the color wheel. A lighter color will draw more attention to the brick color of your exterior. If your exterior is a traditional brick tone, use a lighter tone, such as sienna or a Tuscan red. Use a brighter red color to make the garage door stand out more, such as a tulip or ruby red.

    Neutral

    • A neutral color will make your doors stand out as well as draw attention to the brick exterior. White doors provide a nice contrast, but can be difficult to maintain. Black provides a contemporary neutral color that will make the exterior brick color pop. Shades of brown can also provide a neutral backdrop, such as beige or tan. A gray or slate color will provide an elegant neutral color for your garage doors, particularly against a red brick exterior.

    Trim

    • Matching the other trim features of your home will help create a cohesive color scheme. For example, if your trim work is navy blue, use navy blue doors. This will help make your doors seem like they fit in with the rest of the color scheme. If you don't have much trim, match the color of your shutters or front door.

    Complementary Colors

    • Use a complementary color to achieve color harmony between your garage door and exterior color. Depending on your brick color, this will probably be a blue-green or green color. As an alternative, use another primary color, like yellow or blue.
