Choose a scarf color or pattern that matches the décor in the room. For example, if you have a Persian carpet, choose a scarf that matches one of the colors in the Persian carpet. If you have wall-to-wall carpet or wood floors, choose a complimentary color.
Set up a step ladder on a level surface near the window. Ascend the steps, bringing the curtain scarf with you.
Drape the curtain over the curtain rod. For wide windows, you may need to drape one end over one side, and then move the ladder to reach the other side.
Adjust the curtain on the rod so that it is draped elegantly. You can pull the middle section down slightly so that it forms a slight "U" shape, for example. Use curtain ties along the sides or the top of the window scarf to create other effects, such as a billowing effect.
