Decorating Ideas With Frosted Vs. Glass Shower Doors

Shower doors keep water from splashing into the bathroom and provide privacy for the person inside. Glass shower doors can be frosted or clear. Since the shower takes up a large portion of the bathroom, the glass type covering the door will play a role in the decor of the bathroom. Take the shower door into consideration when decorating your bathroom.
  1. Curtains

    • For a clear glass shower door, use a curtain across the outside of the door to match the color scheme of your bathroom. Curtain rods at the top and bottom of the glass on the shower door ensure that the curtain stays in place and fully stretched to provide complete privacy for the person inside the shower.Use a curtain in a country-themed bathroom instead of one with a modern theme. The curtains soften the lines of the shower door, creating a softer look overall in the area around the shower. A curtain works best with a hinged shower door because it will not allow a sliding door to be opened.

    Modern Decor

    • Use frosted shower doors with chrome accents for a contemporary bathroom. Instead of just a frame around the outer edges of the frosted glass on the door, add metal strips horizontally across the shower door as an accent. Repeat the use of chrome throughout the bathroom with matching plumbing fixtures, towel racks and cabinet hardware. Black tile on the floor and dark walls will make the chrome accents pop out of the background, but white tile and walls will make the bathroom look larger. White frosting on the shower door enhances the feeling of space created by white walls, and it hides the unsightly shower behind it. This creates a sleek, trim look seen in contemporary design.

    Painting

    • Paint the glass of a clear shower door with decorative accents to match your bathroom's theme. For a child's bathroom with a racing theme, use glass paint to paint a race track or cars around the edge of the glass on the shower door. The painting should cover the bottom two-thirds of the shower door, depending on the height of the person using the shower. Flowers painted on the door fit into a bathroom with a nature or floral theme. Seashells fit into an ocean-themed decor.

    Stained Glass

    • For a bathroom in need of a splash of color, turn your clear glass shower door into a work of art. Paint it with glass paints to resemble stained glass. This will double as a decorative accent and will preserve privacy for the person in the shower. Choose a geometric pattern to keep the design evergreen if you choose to later change the theme of your bathroom. Use bath towels and floor mats to match the main colors used in the door. A matching stained glass design painted on the bathroom's window will reflect the image on the shower door, tie the room together, and keep the bathroom's interior hidden from the outside.
