Vertical Blinds With Murals

Although the primary functions of vertical blinds are to keep out light that's too bright and provide privacy, they can also have a decorative function. For an aesthetic pop without parallel, vertical blinds bearing murals are an intriguing option. Whether crafted by hand or mass-produced, mural-covered blinds can transform your window space and serve as a conversation piece.
  1. Benefits

    • Although they're useful for blocking light and maintaining privacy, vertical blinds aren't generally the most aesthetically pleasing window treatment. By selecting or creating blinds with murals on them, you can make them substantially more attractive. Particularly if your room is already whimsical, the addition of vertical blinds with a mural will likely make the space even more appealing.

    Pre-Made

    • Hanging vertical blinds with a mural on them doesn’t have to mean picking up the paintbrush. Although they are more expensive than plain blinds, pre-painted blinds are available. The murals are generally outdoor scenes intended to create the feeling of an open window. If you intend to order pre-made mural blinds, carefully measure your window, as you will not be able to modify the size of the blinds without damaging the mural.

    Hand-Painted

    • If you have some painting skills, you can create your own mural blinds. Start by painting each slat with a primer, as the slick blind surface will not hold paint without this base coat. Select a primer intended for use on plastic. Follow this primer coat with layers of craft paint in hues that fit the scene you are trying to create. To make your scene a seamless one, lay out your blind slats in the order in which you will suspend them from your window and use masking tape to attach them to your work surface so that you can paint on them without them moving about. Sketch out your design in pencil first, and then go over it with paint to craft your mural.

    Alternate Option

    • If you have vertical blinds that are fabric covered, you may be able to transform them with greater ease. Many fabric-covered blinds feature fabric slipped into grooves that run along the edges, allowing you to remove the fabric and swap it out if you wish. Take advantage of this design by slipping out your fabric panels and using them as templates. Purchase a wallpaper mural, and cut it into strips. Slide each strip into the casing that rests on the edges of your blinds, and then rehang them in the appropriate order, creating your vertical blind mural without any hassle.
