How to Cut Molding for an Arched Window

An arched window is an attractive architectural feature but it presents challenges when it comes to home decor. Unlike a regular window, which can be trimmed with plain wood molding, an arched window requires some extra time and thought. Use a flexible molding instead of a wood molding for your window, creating an elegant finished look that is matched to your home’s furnishings.

Instructions

    • 1

Allow the flexible molding to sit in the room where it is going to be used for 24 to 48 hours. This allows the molding to expand as necessary to match the room’s humidity.

    • 2

Measure the arch that you are trimming using a measuring tape. This gives you the amount of molding that you require.

    • 3

Use a saw to cut a length of flexible molding using the measurement you came up with. If you have a large arched window, you may need two pieces laid end to end.

    • 4

Apply a thin layer of molding adhesive to the back of the molding and press it to the window’s arch.

    • 5

Allow the glue to cure thoroughly. The amount of time this requires is listed on the adhesive.
