How to Cover Up the Window Next to the Front Door

Plant a tree or dense shrubbery in front of the window by the front door, positioning the branches in such a way that they block the window. Position the branches with wire if they do not stay in place. Alternatively, position a large potted plant as close to the window as possible. Placing a potted plant on the inside of the window may be beneficial, as well, as the plant will grow toward the sun and fill the window on its own.

Position a wardrobe, coat rack or grandfather clock next to the door so that it blocks the window from view. Set this item on the inside of the house unless using something decorative that would fit in naturally outside, such as an old wooden canoe or a piece of antique farm equipment.

Create filler blocks that block the window from view by cutting a wood board or boards to fit the window opening. Paint the blocks the same color as the interior wall of the entryway, then set them in place over the window. Secure them in position by hammering a few framing nails around their edges and into the edge of the window well.

Install functional, nondecorative shutters on the window. This method works well if you want to be able to quickly cover and uncover the window.
