Purchase three small curtain rods from your local home improvement or retail store to fit each window. Paint the curtain rods to match your home decor. For example, if you have natural-colored decorations, paint each one of the rods in a color to match your decor colors, such as brown, tan and ivory. If you have black and white decor, paint the middle rod black and the two outside rods white. For added decoration, use stencils to draw designs on the curtain rods. If the bay window is in a kitchen you have decorated with wine accents, use a grapevine stencil to paint vines on the curtain rods. Add sparkle to the curtain rods in a girl's bedroom by spraying them with glitter craft spray before hanging them above the windows.
To create a nature-type look, consider using branches. Find smooth branches and cut them in the length to fit each window. You can use sandpaper to smooth down branches. Paint the branches or leave them natural. Hang tabbed curtains from the branches to hang over the windows. Alternatively, paint the branches white or light brown and paint small leaves all over the branches.
When decorating a bay window in a sports-themed room, select from a variety of items to use as curtain rods. Cut hockey sticks and paint them in the room colors or write your last name on the hockey sticks. Use the hockey sticks as curtain rods for each window in the bay area. Other items to use as curtain rods in a sports-themed or game room include golf clubs, pool cues and boat oars. Alternatively, use basic curtain rods and glue small baseballs, hockey pucks or tennis balls to the ends of the curtain rods.
Wooden dowel rods are available in a variety of lengths and sizes at most craft stores. Cut the dowel rods into the desired length before decorating. Decoupage the curtain rods using decoupage glue and tissue paper. Tear the tissue paper into strips and paint the strips onto the wooden dowel rods. For a brighter color, place several layers of tissue paper on the dowel rods. For a black and white room, use newspaper instead of tissue paper. Alternatively, use the comic section to add some color to the curtain rods.
