How to Hang a Tab Top Valance With Panels

Curtain panels are the long drapery sections that cover the window while a valance is a decorative piece that runs along the top of the window. Curtains and a valance hang from their own rod. The valance rod is simply set on longer brackets that hide the curtain rod behind it. If you have a tab top valance and panels, the valance needs to be set a little higher than the curtain rod to cover it so it isn't visible through the tabs.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the right curtain rod bracket up on the wall where it will go, a few inches above and outside the right corner of the window. Make a mark on the wall for the mounting location. Repeat with the left curtain rod bracket.

    • 2

Place the curtain rod bracket against the mark and screw it into the wall with the hardware that came with the mounting kit. Repeat with the second curtain rod bracket.

    • 3

Hold the right valance rod bracket up next to the right curtain rod bracket. Set it so it is 2 to 4 inches outside and above the right curtain rod bracket. You want the valance rod to be slightly above the tab top panels to cover the tops slightly. Mark the bracket location on the wall then repeat with the left valance rod bracket.

    • 4

Thread the curtain rod through the tab top panels. Push the panels toward the center of the rod then hang the rod on the curtain rod brackets. Pull the curtain panels out and into place.

    • 5

Thread the valance rod through the tab top valance. Push the ends of the valance toward the center to make it easier to hang the rod. Set the rod on the brackets. Pull the ends of the valance to the very ends of the rod.
