How to Install a Frame & Curtain for an Air Conditioner

A window air conditioner is a unit that is mounted in the window and provides cool air circulation during the hot months of the year. The window unit typically does not fit inside the window snugly, which creates the need for air conditioner curtains. The curtains are plastic accordion slides that block air, bugs, and weather from entering the house through the open window. The curtains attach to the air-conditioning unit with a plastic frame.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the three holes on the top of the air conditioner near the front.

    • 2

Align the three holes in the plastic frame with the three holes in the top of the air conditioner and insert a 1/4-inch Philips screw into the aligned holes.

    • 3

Tighten the screws with a Philips screwdriver.

    • 4

Set one curtain on each side of the air conditioner. It does not matter which side you place which curtain as long as the curtain is placed into the air conditioner frame with the flush side facing you.

    • 5

Insert the top curtain guides, the notched, jutting ends of the curtain, into the rectangular openings on the ends of the plastic frame.

    • 6

Insert the bottom curtain guides into the rectangular holes in the air conditioner, found at the bottom of the sides of the unit.

    • 7

Screw a 1/4-inch Philips screw into the three holes, on each side of the air conditioner, between the two guides, which align with three holes on the sides of the air conditioner.

    • 8

Pull the tab on the curtain away from the air conditioner to open the accordion curtains.
