Position the door frame within the door and determine if any material needs to be removed from the doorway. Sand down the doorway if necessary using a power sander to get the frame to fit securely within the doorway. Use a saw if needed to cut out larger pieces of the doorway.
Set the door frame anchors that came with the door frame in place around the frame, lining them up, if necessary, with the predrilled holes in the door frame. Attach the anchors to the doorway by drilling 3-inch wood screws through the screw holes in the anchors and into the doorway.
Apply caulking to the outside of the door frame. Hold the door frame up within the door and slide it over the anchors. Remove any caulking that has squirted out of the space between the frame and doorway.
Check that the frame is level using a 3-foot carpenter's level by placing it against each of the four sides of the door frame. Adjust the straightness of each piece by hammering shims underneath the frame between the frame and the doorway using the hammer. Rip off any piece of shims that stick out beyond the frame, breaking them with the claw of the hammer if necessary.
Attach the frame to the anchors by passing 3-inch wood screws through the predrilled holes in the frame and screwing them tightly to the anchors. In you're working with a frame without predrilled holes, you will need to drill the holes first, marking their position in the doorway and then installing the anchors in that position.
Install the door into the mounted frame, making any necessary adjustments to the frame to ensure that the door swings freely.
