How to Troubleshoot the Installation of a RollEase Window Shade

RollEase window shades are designed to fit any home with easy to use shades. If your RollEase window shade does not work after installation, it could be due to a number of issues including problems with the cord, mounting or too much weight. Most of these problems will cause the shade to rise unevenly. You can troubleshoot most problems at home.

Instructions

    • 1

Check to make sure the lift cords are evenly taut with equal tension on both lines. If the lines are slack, reinstall them according to the instructions that came with your manual.

    • 2

Measure the distance between the cord clips and the brackets to verify that they are evenly spaced from the brackets. If they’re not, reinstall them.

    • 3

Tie the knots on the cord clips so they face away from the clutch, the area where the cord loops through at the top of the shade.

    • 4

Look at the top of the shaft, the rod at the top of your shade, if you have an “edge lift” cord knot. The knot should lie on top of the shaft. If you have an “internal lift” cord knot, it should be at the bottom of the shaft. In both cases, there shouldn’t be any cord wrapped on the shaft when the shade is fully lowered.

    • 5

Add a lift line if you don’t have enough. Each lift line can lift no more than five pounds. So, if you have a 20 pound shade, you should have at least four lift lines, although more is better.

    • 6

Move the lift lines further apart if lift cords wrap around the cord clips, which happens if the lift lines are not far enough apart. Allow one inch of shaft space between lift lines for every three feet of drop.

    • 7

Pull the shade further away from the window if it catches on the window or some other piece of window hardware.

    • 8

Attach the drive disk squarely on the shaft if it’s uneven. Check that the end of the shaft was cut squarely and evenly when you began your installation.

    • 9

Lock the spears securely into the clutch and spear retainer on the end of the shaft if they’re not already.

    • 10

Replace the mounting board to which the shaft is attached if it is bowed or warped.

    • 11

Loosen the screws on the brackets or realign the brackets if they appear out of alignment.

    • 12

Place the “L” mounting brackets close enough to the clutch so the board is not twisted when you pull the control cord.

    • 13

Check the weight of your shade. A standard clutch can support a maximum 30 pound shade. The slim clutch can support a maximum 15 pound shade. Any shade over 10 pounds must use a metal bead chain.
