How to Hide Dryer Vents in Walls

If there is a distracting dryer vent on your wall and you want to hide it, covering it in any way is not an option as that poses a severe fire danger. The only way to safely hide a wall vent is to simply paint it to match the exact shade of the wall around it. Properly preparing the vent for painting is important and will help ensure a quality finished product that allows the vent to blend into the wall and not be an eyesore.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the dryer vent from the wall using a screwdriver to loosen the bolts.

    • 2

Sand the entire surface of the dryer vent with 240-grit sandpaper.

    • 3

Dip a clean rag into warm, soapy water and squeeze it out until it's no longer dripping. Clean the sanded dryer vent, rinsing the rag in the water as necessary. Rinse thoroughly.

    • 4

Buff the dryer vent dry with a soft cloth.

    • 5

Place the dryer vent face-up on top of a large piece of old drop cloth.

    • 6

Shake a can of metal spray paint in the same color as the wall surrounding the dryer vent. Hold the nozzle about a foot away from the vent and spray a thin, even layer over the front of the dryer vent. Allow it to dry.

    • 7

Apply a layer of sealant over the newly painted dryer vent. Allow it to dry.

    • 8

Replace the dryer vent on the wall using the screwdriver.
