How to Replace Blinds Between the Glass on Doors

Several door manufacturers make glass doors with hinged glass panels that open and have built-in blinds inside. The blinds are secured between two glass panels and are operated by an operator lever instead of having to pull the strings, or turn the wand, to open and close the blinds. You can swap out the blinds to different colored blinds whenever you desire, or you can remove them to clean the glass. Accessing the blinds only takes a minute or two and does not require the use of any tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the blinds up, by pushing the operator down, until the blinds are compact at the top of the door.

    • 2

Locate the lock latch on the door along the hinged-glass-panel of the window. Depending on the door, there may be multiple lock latches.

    • 3

Unlock all of the latches on the door.

    • 4

Pull open the glass panel. There may be a restrictor cord on the panel so be careful not to force the door open more than it allows.

    • 5

Find the pull hinge on one side of the blind panel and pull it down to release that side from the doorframe.

    • 6

Slide the other side of the blind panel off the mounting stud and away from the frame to take the blinds off.

    • 7

Slide one end of the new blinds over the mounting stud, on one side, until it latches into place.

    • 8

Push the opposite end up until it locks into place on the other mounting stud.

    • 9

Test that the blinds work by sliding the operator up and down to open and close the blinds.

    • 10

Close the hinged-glass door and lock the latches back into place.
