How to Install Drapery Holdbacks on a Sliding Door

When you hang draperies over a sliding glass door, it may be necessary to move the drapes out of the way to allow people to enter and exit. One option for managing the window coverings is to install drapery holdbacks. Drapery holdbacks come in a variety of sizes, shapes and styles to add an attractive embellishment to the window treatment.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the installation point for the drapery holdback next to the sliding door -- usually the right side. Measure 35 1/2 inches to 39 1/2 inches up from the floor and 2 1/2 inches to 4 inches to the right of the door trim. Place a pencil dot at this spot to mark the installation location.

    • 2

Drill a pilot hole at the pencil mark.

    • 3

Screw in the holdback at the pilot hole until the holdback sits flush with the wall.

    • 4

Open the draperies. Whether you use a traverse rod or curtains with rod pockets, you can position the drapery fabric out of the way of the sliding door by positioning the curtain to the right of the holdback. The holdback will keep the draperies out of the way and help prevent soiling and damage.
