How to Make Waverly French Door Curtains

French door window curtains provide privacy without detracting from the door's appearance. Waverly brand curtains consist of pleated sheer panels that supply covering while still allowing light to pass into the room. These curtains attach to a top and bottom rod so they remain firmly affixed to the door even as you open and close it. You can make your own curtains in the Waverly style using a fabric that matches your home's décor.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the curtain rods on the French doors with the hardware included with the rods, following package installation instructions. Use rods that are about two inches longer than the window width. Place the top rod two inches above the window and the bottom rod two inches below the window.

    • 2

Measure the width and length of the window. Add 10 1/2 inches onto the length measurement and double the width measurement. Cut out the curtain panel from the fabric using these measurements.

    • 3

Fold in the sides of the panel 1/2-inch toward the wrong side of the fabric. Fold over a second time, catching the raw edge of the fabric inside the fold. Sew along each fold to hem the sides of the curtain panel.

    • 4

Fold down 1/4 inch of the fabric toward its wrong side at the top and bottom of the curtain panel. Iron the fold at high heat to hold it in place. This fold provides a neat edge when you make the rod pockets.

    • 5

Fold over 3 inches of the fabric toward the wrong side at the top and bottom of the panel to make the rod pockets. Sew along the bottom edge of each fold to secure the pockets closed.

Slide the top and bottom curtain rod into the corresponding rod pocket. Hang the rods on the installed hardware. Arrange the curtain so it pleats evenly along the width of both rods.
