How to Install Cafe Rods on French Doors

A French door is a door inset with glass panes from top to bottom. It requires the use of rod-pocket curtains to provide privacy. Rod-pocket curtains are those with cafe sash rods sewn into pockets at top and bottom, allowing you to slide the curtain slightly one way or the other. Cafe sash rods attach to the wood frame of a French door at the top and bottom. They are slightly larger than typical sash rods; they hold the curtains an inch or so away from the glass rather than against it as a sash rod would. They install to the door with accompanying hardware.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the door panel and the curtain to be sure the rod pockets at the top and bottom of the curtain fall in the correct place on the door.

    • 2

Mark the location where you want to install the hardware, both top and bottom, with a pencil. Situate the hardware an inch or two above and outside the glass panels of the door.

    • 3

Use a drill to make pilot holes in the door in the locations that you have marked. Attach the drapery hardware using a screwdriver or hammer as the hardware requires.

    • 4

Feed the French door curtain's rod pockets onto the rods, top and bottom, and snap the rods onto the hardware.
