Check the rough opening for the doorway. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the appropriate size of the rough opening for your split door. Use a measuring tape to ensure the opening is large enough. Use a level and square to make sure the opening is plumb and square.
Cut a single 2x4 into two 18-inch-long sections.
Install the 2x4 pieces. Identify the side of the door where the hinges will go. Mark a spot at 22 and 65 inches above the bottom of the door Attach the 2x4s to the door by centering them against the measured marks.
Mount the hinge jamb. Use shims to lift the jamb approximately 1/4-inch above ground level. Use the level and square to ensure the jamb is plumb and secure the jamb into the rough opening with wood screws.
Install the t-Astragal molding. The molding fits between the top and bottom of the door to prevent the sections from swinging in both directions. Use wood screws to attach the T-Astragal to either the top or bottom section of the door.
Mount the hinge plates. Attach the hinge plates to the hinge jamb with the included screws. If the hinge plates are not already attached to the door, attach them to the door frame, remove the pins then attach the accompanying sections of each hinge to the appropriate place on the door panels.
Install the two door sections. Line up the hinges on the bottom section and attach the door to the frame by inserting the hinge pins once the two hinge plates are properly aligned. Once the bottom section is installed, repeat the process for the top section.
