How to Install a Division for Panel Curtains on a Ceiling

The Division Suspension set is a curtain rail for four panel curtains. The rail hangs from the ceiling or the wall using brackets. The curtains move back and forth along the rail with one curtain in front of the other. Installation requires only a few steps, but the annotated instruction manual contains confusing pictures and no written steps. While the instructions are universal for any language, they still may be confusing for consumers to understand without written words.

Instructions

    • 1

Mark with the pencil where the rail will hang from the ceiling. You want the ends of the rail to stick out past the windows at an equal distance. Measure the length of the rail with the tape measure and then measure the same distance on the ceiling, making sure an equal distance sticks out past the windows.

    • 2

Mark where the rail begins and ends on the ceiling with the pencil. Locate the center between the two marks and make a third mark.

    • 3

Locate the studs on the ceiling where the rail will hang. Turn on the stud finder and press it against the ceiling near the first mark. Move the stud finder in one direction until it lights up or beeps. Mark the spot, which is one end of a stud, with a pencil and keep moving in the same direction until you find the other end of the stud. You must locate the stud closest to the mark you made. Repeat with the other two marks, finding studs as close to them as possible.

    • 4

Remove the two screws from one end of the rail using a screwdriver. Remove the end piece on the rail and set the piece and screws aside.

    • 5

Slide the panel hangers on the rail. There are two rows for the hangers on the rail. Slide one hanger on one row and push it as far to the end as possible. Slide a second hanger on the same row as the first so that the hook-and-loop fasteners face the same direction. Slide the last two hangers on the second row in the same manner. The fasteners must all face the same direction.

    • 6

Turn the rail over so that the hangers face down. Place the end piece back on the rail and screw the screws back into place.

    • 7

Place the rail against the ceiling, with the fasteners facing away from the wall and the hanger pointing down. Line up the rail with the marks you made for placement. Move the rail left or right, if necessary, so that the holes for the screws rest where there is a stud. There are holes for three screws, one on each end and one in the middle.

    • 8

Make sure the rail is level by having someone hold the rail in place and setting the level on top of the rail.

    • 9

Mark the place for each screw with the pencil for easy locating if the rail moves or is taken down before completing installation.

    • 10

Place one of the screws in the middle hole and screw it into the ceiling with the drill. Keep the drill pointed straight up and do not angle it while drilling. Place a second screw at one of the ends of the rail and drill it in place. Repeat with the last screw.
