What Type of Curtains Go With a Blue Floral Couch?

A blue floral couch in your living room -- either as the space's showpiece or as part of an ensemble -- can add a soft, homey touch to the gathering area. Floral upholstery can present a challenge when you're choosing window treatments, but you can find curtains that help tie the decor together and complement your blue floral couch. There are a few different ways with which you can approach choosing curtains and each lends a slightly different look to the room. You can put a blue floral couch in rooms other than the living room, too.

  1. Sheers

    • If your blue floral couch is situated in a small room or one that doesn't get a lot of natural light, sheers are a good curtain choice. You can choose white sheers or sheers that complement one or more of the colors in your couch's blue floral upholstery. Be sure to consider privacy when treating your windows with sheers. If privacy at night is a concern, the addition of blinds or a roll-up shade can take care of the problem and allow you to continue enjoying the light, airy feeling of sheers.

    Draperies

    • Draperies add a touch of luxury to your room.

      Draperies or curtains made with heavier fabric can add a touch of elegance and luxury to a space. If this is the look you're going for, choose a fabric that feels and looks luxurious, such as raw silk. You can choose draperies in a shade of blue that matches your floral couch or in colors that pick up on the floral pattern. This type of curtain gives the room a more formal look. Additionally, draperies or lined curtains made with heavier fabric are ideal for blocking out light and maintaining privacy.

    Colors and Patterns

    • A blue floral couch provides you with a few colors from which to choose when looking for curtains that coordinate or complement your sofa. In addition to selecting a solid color that works with the colors in your couch, you can also go with a complementary pattern. Mixing florals with stripes is a common way in which to integrate patterns if your room is decorated in an English country or country cottage style. You can also choose a matching floral print; this is especially effective when the couch is situated near the window and you wish to make it the focal point of the room.

    An Alternate Window Treatment

    • Valances come in many styles to suit different tastes.

      Sometimes a full curtain is too much, leaving your room to look darker and feel smaller. In this case, a valance with sheers or blinds can provide a wonderful complement to your blue floral couch while maintaining a light and airy feeling. Using sheers or blinds that are light in color and weight allows you to be a bit more bold with the valance. Choose a shade of blue that complements your sofa or go for a bold floral and/or stripe pattern.
