How to Block a Window in the House From Night Vision

Night vision is a technology that uses ambient light, allowing you to see details clearly in the dark. At night, the windows in your home make your life visible to prying eyes with night vision. Potential thieves can use night vision to inspect your possessions through the windows. If you live in a high-crime neighborhood or just want to block your home from potential night vision scans, blackout curtains are a viable solution. Blackout curtains use thick material to block even the minimal light needed for night vision to work.

Measure the window with a measuring tape. Add 12 inches to the width and length measurement. Cut a piece of fabric to match these measurements. Choose fabric that matches your internal decor. Cut a piece of blackout fabric that is 1/2 inch shorter in width and length than the decorative fabric. For example, if your window measures 36 inches long and 24 inches wide, cut the decorative fabric to measure at least 48-by-36-inches and the blackout fabric 47 1/4-by-35 1/4-inches. Blackout fabric is available online and at fabric stores.
